Perfume SEO: how fragrance stores rank for notes, gifting and oud searches
Perfume SEO for fragrance brands and retailers: catalogue structure, notes-based collections, product pages, Arabic searches and seasonal gifting campaigns that rank.
Key takeaways
- Perfume shoppers search by brand, notes, occasion, season and "smells like", so your catalogue should match those paths.
- Fix near-duplicate product pages from sizes and concentrations with variants and canonical URLs.
- Each product page needs notes, concentration, longevity and real reviews in text.
- Plan Ramadan, Eid, Valentine's Day and White Friday pages weeks before each peak.
Fragrance is one of the most interesting niches I work in. Shoppers can't smell a perfume online, so they search for words that describe it: notes, moods, occasions, and comparisons to scents they already love. Stores that organise their catalogue around those searches win, and that's most of what perfume SEO comes down to. I work on SEO for V Perfumes in Dubai, and these are the lessons that apply to any fragrance store.
How people search for perfume
| Search type | Example | Best page to rank |
|---|---|---|
| Brand and product | "dior sauvage elixir 60ml" | Product page |
| Notes | "oud and rose perfume" | Notes collection |
| Occasion and audience | "perfume gift set for her" | Gifting collection |
| Season or climate | "fresh perfume for summer" | Guide or collection |
| Comparison | "perfume similar to baccarat rouge" | Guide |
| Local | "perfume shop dubai mall" | Store or location page |
Most stores only build pages for the first row. The other five are where smaller retailers can beat the marketplaces.

Structure the catalogue around search
Build collections for each of these, as long as you have enough products to fill them:
- Brands and houses, with a short introduction to each.
- Scent families and key notes: oud, rose, musk, amber, vanilla, citrus, leather.
- Audience: men, women, unisex.
- Occasions: office, evening, weddings, gifts.
- Concentration: extrait, eau de parfum, eau de toilette, attar and oils.
Each collection needs a unique introduction and should link to related collections, so authority flows across the catalogue. My e-commerce SEO service covers this structure in detail.
Fix the duplicate product problem
The same perfume in 50ml and 100ml, or as EDP and EDT, often exists as separate products with almost identical text. They compete with each other and dilute your rankings. Where you can, combine sizes as variants of one product. Where products must stay separate, make their descriptions genuinely different and link them to each other.
Build product pages that sell and rank
Every perfume page should have, in text:
- Top, heart and base notes
- Concentration and size
- Longevity and projection, honestly described
- Who it suits and when to wear it
- Real customer reviews
- Product schema with price, availability and reviews
Win the Arabic searches
In the Gulf, many fragrance searches happen in Arabic: "عطور رجالية", "عود", "بخور", "طقم هدايا". Stores with proper Arabic pages pick up traffic that English-only competitors never see. See my Arabic SEO guide for the setup, and my page on perfume SEO in Saudi Arabia for the Saudi market.

Plan for the seasons
Fragrance sales spike around Ramadan and Eid, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, White Friday, Dubai Shopping Festival and wedding season. Create evergreen gifting pages that stay live all year and update them before each peak, rather than launching new URLs every time. A page with a year of history ranks far better than one published a week before Eid.
A perfume product page, field by field
| Field | Why it matters | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Matches brand and product searches | "Oud Nuit Extrait de Parfum 100ml" |
| Notes pyramid | Ranks for notes searches and helps buyers choose | Top: saffron · Heart: rose · Base: oud |
| Concentration | Separates EDP, EDT and extrait searches | Extrait de parfum, 25% |
| Longevity and projection | Answers the most common pre-purchase question | 8–10 hours, moderate projection |
| Occasion | Feeds gifting and occasion searches | Evenings, weddings, cooler months |
| Reviews | Trust, rich results and AI mentions | Verified buyer reviews in text |
The example values are illustrative.
From my work in fragrance
Working on SEO for a large Dubai perfume retailer taught me that the biggest wins often come from structure rather than new content: turning hundreds of near-identical size and concentration pages into clean variants, and building notes and occasion collections that match how people actually describe scents. Once the structure was right, every new product and guide had somewhere sensible to link to.
Earn beauty and lifestyle links
Gift guides, new launch announcements and expert perfume advice give beauty and lifestyle publishers a reason to link to you. Links from those sites also feed the sources that AI assistants read when people ask "where should I buy perfume in Dubai?"
